Access Denied, Traffic Not Accepted from This IP

The "5.7.708 Access Denied, Traffic Not Accepted from This IP" error occurs when sending emails from specific IP addresses. This issue is commonly encountered in the following scenarios:

  • 1. Sending from known, low-reputation IP addresses, often associated with new Microsoft 365 customers.
    • Microsoft 365 prevents email delivery from IP addresses with a low reputation to protect against spam and abuse. This commonly impacts new users with fresh IPs that haven't established a reputation.
    • Error message: „5.7.708 Access denied, traffic not accepted from this IP: This error occurs when sending email from known, low reputation IP addresses that are typically used by new customers.”
  • 2. Using a Microsoft 365 trial tenant before purchasing licenses.
    • Trial Microsoft 365 tenants are sometimes assigned low-reputation IP addresses. This restriction applies until the account is upgraded with purchased licenses.
    • Error message: "5.7.708 Access denied, traffic not accepted from this IP This error can happen when you are trying out a Microsoft 365 trial tenant. If you receive this error before you can purchase licenses, contact support to request an exception for the low reputation IP address until you're able to purchase licenses."

Steps to Resolve the Issue

1. If you are still on a Microsoft 365 trial subscription
  • If you receive this error during your trial period, you can:
    • Reach out to Microsoft Support and request an exception for your IP address. For example explain that you're unable to purchase licenses due to the restriction and need a temporary resolution.
    • Or upgrade to a paid Microsoft 365 subscription (note that buying a paid MailMerge365 subscription does not change this error message at all, we have not influence over this - only Microsoft).
2. You have a paid Microsoft 365 subscription
  • Once you have paid for your Microsoft 365 subscription it may still take a while (possibly weeks) for Microsoft 365 to learn to trust your mailbox and what you send to avoid this error.
    • Start sending individual emails, responding to emails etc just like any normal email user.
    • Over time your tenant will be moved to a new group and these error will disappear automatically. If you feel enough time has passed, you can contact Microsoft support to check on the status of your tenant.
